Sjors Wijlhuizen in a bird spotting house

Shooting Chasing the Sun a week in the countryside of Groningen

We have seen many beautiful locations during our films. But what we encountered in Groningen was truly breathtaking. At first sight, it looks like a big reed field with water surrounding it. But suddenly a large wooden building appears. Out of nowhere. In Groningen, this birdhouse is known as the Kiekkaaste.

At the end of Chasing the Sun is a long monologue shot by actor Sjors Wijlhuizen in just one take. More takes were also not possible because his character disappears after the monologue.
Many different locations were considered for the film. Groningen proved to be the only region with the suitable landscape. Lots of water and green fields, a special bird-watching house and many friendly locals.

It was an intense and long weekend. Short nights, long shooting days. But fortunately our team was very well looked after by the Ten Kate family. For which we thank them!

The Kiekkaaste birdspotting house
The birdhouse is the setting of the story about Alexander. A young father who is in trouble with himself. In the Kiekkaaste, he can devote himself to his hobby: photography.
